The Case For LISS
We regularly recommend HIIT cardio (High Intensity Interval Training i.e. short bursts of sprinting) because of it’s time efficiency and effectiveness but it’s still important to use it judiciously in accordance with your specific program and goals.
While in and of itself incorporating HIIT into your routine is an effective strategy, smart programming will always focus on the whole picture of your training plan.
Anything done at a truly high intensity is extremely taxing on your your energy system, specific muscles, and on your nervous system as a whole.
The more intensity you impose on your body, the more time it needs to recover and that of course means you won’t be able to train as frequently.
LISS cardio (Low Intensity Steady State i.e. walking) on the other hand can be incorporated almost anytime, in any program while providing predictable benefits and not interfering too much on recovery. LISS is actually what we recommend as a great active recovery strategy.
It might not be as sexy and you definitely won’t feel as bad a** but trust me the training pros far outweigh the vanity cons.
Sometimes LISS is MORE!
